FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves ultrasonic examination and echogram estimation based on its digital processing. Mean level of gray is measured in conditional units assuming that 0 is the level of black, and 100 is the level of white. Gray level distribution histogram is built and its width is determined. Mean level of gray being not greater than 10 conditional units and histogram width being not greater than 40 conditional units, benign tumor is to be diagnosed. Mean level of gray being equal to or greater than 20 conditional units and histogram width being greater than 40 conditional units, malignant tumor is to be diagnosed.
