The tension device (2) is an endless drive transmission belt (4) in a vehicle engine (M) and at first end (8) has a pivotably located lever component (6), with at second end (10) rotatably located tension wheel (12) which can be set against the actual drive transmission belt. A force development component (14) connected with the lever component can activate the lever component with tension force so that the tension wheel is maintained in an effective tension position. The force development component is a hydraulic cylinder with a fluid chamber limited by the cylinder housing (22), in which is a movable piston (24), which is force transmittingly connected (16) with the lever component to maintain the tension wheel in the tensioned position. The cylinder fluid chamber contains hydraulic fluid (26) under pressure and partly at least one gas cushion (28) forming a movement damping sprung device. |
