The method is for sieving soil in archaeological investigation and involves placing soil on a sieve component (8) fitted in a closable tank (4). The tank is then closed adn partially filled with fluid. It is then brought to a pressure less than atmospheric, of the order of 15 mbar. A water jet motor pump (22) fills the tank with water from a first basin. Water with the disintegrated soil is fed back to a second basin, which via an overflow is connected to the first basin. The sieving of 60 liters of soil with a firm structure lasts in the order of 5 minutes.
