PURPOSE: Provided are preparations for protecting enzymes and anti-aging comprising 3-methyl-1,2-cyclopentanedione derived from coffee. The 3-methyl-1,2-cyclopentanedione scavenges peroxynitrite and protects glutathione reductase. CONSTITUTION: Pharmaceutical compositions for protecting enzyme and anti-aging are characterized by containing, as an active ingredient, 3-methyl-1,2-cyclopentanedione which is represented by the formula(1). The 3-methyl-1,2-cyclopentanedione is characteristically derived from a coffee extract.
