METHOD FOR PREPARING HOLLOW SILICA MICROSPHERES

PURPOSE: A method for promptly preparing large quantities of hollow silica microspheres having small particle size and uniformed particles is provided. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of dispersing 10 to 200 g of polymer microspheres into one liter of alcohol or a mixed solvent of alcohol and water; treating the polymer microspheres dispersed into the solvent using ultrasonic waves of 25 to 1,000 KHz; obtaining polymer microspheres coated with silica particulate by adding 30 to 360 ml of tetraethoxysilane to the solvent and reacting the added tetraethoxysilane with the solvent in the presence of alkali catalyst; and removing the polymer microspheres by dissolving the polymer microspheres into one or more organic solvents selected from the group consisting of methylene dichloride, chloroform, tetrahydrofuran, benzene and toluene or heating the polymer microspheres to a temperature of 300 to 1,000 deg.C.
