PURPOSE: A codebook index searching method in an audio system is provided to reduce a period of time required for searching codebook index. CONSTITUTION: Two codebook index values obtained from two frames are loaded(ST11). The loaded two codebook index values are compared to each other, to determine a codebook index maximum value and a codebook index minimum value(ST12). A difference between the maximum and minimum values is calculated(ST13). An estimated codebook index value is calculated using the difference value. 40 sections are given to each of the fore and the back of the estimated codebook index value, and codebook indexes are estimated for the 80 sections. A codebook index value is searched in the estimated codebook index section(ST22). |
