PURPOSE: A mask frame for cathode ray tubes is provided to improve the color purity by changing the height of a diagonal part, the height of a long-axis portion, and the height of a short-axis portion of the mask frame without changing raw materials of an inner shield. CONSTITUTION: A cathode ray tube includes a panel, a funnel, a shadow mask, and a mask frame(70). The panel includes an outer surface having an unlimited radius of curvature or the flat outer surface. The funnel is installed at a backside of the panel. The shadow mask is arranged at the predetermined position apart from an inner surface of the panel. The shadow mask includes a plurality of electron beam passing holes. The mask frame(70) is used for supporting the shadow mask. The mask frame(70) for cathode ray tubes satisfies a relational expression such as d/v>=0.9, d/h>=0.9 where d is the height of a diagonal part of the mask frame(70), h is the height of a long-axis portion of the mask frame(70), and v is the height of a short-axis portion of the mask frame(70).
