PURPOSE: A device for detecting a fused slab for an overhead crane is provided to prevent the slab from dropping while the overhead crane grips the slab by detecting the fusion state of the slab. CONSTITUTION: In an overhead crane, a cylinder(10) is installed in the lower part of a cross arm, and has a rod(12) of which a rack gear(13) is formed at one side. A driving gear(20) is engaged with the rack gear, and is coupled to a rotary shaft(22). A driven gear(21) is located at the outer surface of the cross arm, and is rotated by the rotary shaft. A detecting bar(30) is engaged with the driven gear, and detects a fused slab. A sensor(60) is installed at the outer circumference of the cylinder, and detects a piston installed in the cylinder according to the movement of the detecting bar.
