PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the compatibility, reliability, and accessibility of a single layer disk and a multilayer disk.

SOLUTION: In a single layer disk and a multilayer disk, the first layer which is the recording layer L0 has the same distance from the cover layer surface CVLs to be irradiated with the laser beam in the thickness direction. In the multilayer disk, the second recording layer L1 and succeeding recording layers are formed closer to the cover layer surface CVLs than the first layer L0.
