<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer and a printing system capable of quickly making a print request from an application when the processing capabilities of a computer and a printer is unbalanced. <P>SOLUTION: The printer consists in connecting at least one computer and an application and a print driver and communication software via a network to a plurality of printers for printing print data from the computer. This printer transmits a print time in response to an inquiry from the print driver, and the print driver stores information obtained by analyzing a plotting instruction requested by the application for each data classification and the print time received from the printer in a print characteristic data table, and decides the optimal print data format (vector/raster mixing format or raster format) from the information stored in the print characteristic data table each time a print request from the application is made. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
