<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a secondary battery in which degradation of capacity due to the number of cycles used and degradation of safety at high temperatures are suppressed and large capacity and safety are realized, and a battery pack using the same and a method of use of the secondary battery. <P>SOLUTION: In the secondary battery, a compound as expressed in the following formula is used as a positive electrode active material, Li<SB>x</SB>Ni<SB>y</SB>Mn<SB>1-y</SB>O<SB>2</SB>, provided that in the formula, x, y satisfies 0.9≤x≤1.1, 0.45≤y≤0.55. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
