PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide ferromagnetic metallic powder having excellent preservation stability and a magnetic recording medium superior in electromagnetic conversion characteristic and preservation stability. SOLUTION: The ferromagnetic metallic powder mainly made of iron that is provided an oxide film on the surface of particles, contains a magnetite-based iron oxide crystal or an iron spinel-based oxide crystal as the oxide film, and a hematite crystal. The ratio of the X-ray diffraction strength of the hematite crystal to the magnetite-based iron oxide crystal or the iron spinel-based oxide crystal is less than 0.1. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
