PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a object detection device for detecting an object carried in, carried out, or moved by detecting a change occurring in a time-series input picture. SOLUTION: This object detection device comprises a reference screen generating means for generating a reference picture by using the time-series input picture, a picture change area detection means for detecting a picture change area by using a difference between the reference picture generated by the reference picture generating means and the other time-series input picture, and a picture change cause determination means for determining, by using picture characteristics, whether a picture change is produced by the carrying-in of the object, by the carrying-out of the object, or by the change of the position and orientation of the object.
