PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radio communication apparatus and a method for controlling the same which allows participation in a plurality of networks and allows communication with good transmission efficiency to other radio communication apparatus as many as possible. SOLUTION: The radio communication apparatus conducts data communication by using one channel selected from a plurality of channels and makes the specified channel participate in the power saving mode. Now, other channel in an ordinary mode is detected in the power saving mode of the channel. As a result, when the channel in the ordinary mode is detected, the channel in the detected ordinary mode is participated instead of the channel in the power saving mode. The data communication is conducted through the channel in the detected ordinary mode. Meanwhile, after the data communication, the mode of the participating channel is switched to the power saving mode.
