PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processing apparatus, etc., which can know the current position of the device main body without depending upon a base station nor a satellite, etc. SOLUTION: The apparatus is equipped with a photographing means of photographing an image, an extracting means of extracting a character string from the image photographed by the photographing means, a recognizing means of recognizing the character string extracted by the extracting means, a retrieving means of retrieving the current position of the device main body by using the recognition result of the recognizing means and a database, and a display means of displaying the retrieval result of the retrieving means.
