PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To charge one battery on priority basis, in charging the two batteries using a single adapter. SOLUTION: In charging the first and second batteries (50, 64) using a single adapter (20), a voltage (Vcc) of the adapter is compared with a voltage (VBATT<SB>1</SB>) of the first battery. When the difference, obtained by subtracting the voltage of the first battery from the adapter voltage, is smaller than a prescribed voltage, the second battery is charged on priority basis, without the first battery being charged. When the difference is larger than the prescribed voltage, the first battery is charged. The prescribed voltage is 0.6 V. When the voltage of the first battery is lower than the reference voltage and the voltage of the second battery is higher than the reference voltage, the first battery is preliminarily charged and the second battery is fully charged. The charging current at preliminary charging is 1/10 as large as the charging current at full charging. The reference voltage is 2.9 V. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
