PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk device which protects a head and a disk from the impact in falling and can record and reproduce information even in a nongravitational or microgravitational space. SOLUTION: The disk device which records or reproduces the information by moving the head 2 onto the disk 1, i.e., a recording medium has a gravitational acceleration detecting section 5 which detects the free fall state of the disk device and a control section 4 which retreats the head 2 from above the disk 1 when the free falling state is detected continuously for the first prescribed time and which moves the retreated head 2 onto the disk 1 when the free falling state is detected continuously for the second prescribed time longer than the first prescribed time by the detecting section 5.
