PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup unit capable of preventing machine sound of a motor or a gear by optical zoom drive and AF drive from being recorded as noise in the case of recording audio at recording of a moving picture and realizing moving picture recording with high image quality when no audio recording is required. SOLUTION: In the image pickup unit provided with an imaging device, an optical zoom processing means, an electronic zoom processing means, and a zoom control means, and having a first moving picture recording mode wherein a microphone records the audio at moving picture recording and a second moving picture recording mode wherein an externally mounted microphone connected to the image pickup unit records audio, the zoom control means allows only the electronic zoom processing means to change a field angle of a photographed image in the first moving picture recording mode and allows the optical zoom processing means and the electronic zoom processing means to change a field angle of the photographed image in the second moving picture recording mode.
