<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply perform a plurality of stereo image processing and recognition processing, to reduce costs and to provide various functionalities for monitoring, etc., around a vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: A stereo type outside vehicle monitoring device has a plurality of stereo cameras 1 to 8 respectively attached to different parts of the vehicle G and for respectively monitoring in different monitoring directions. The stereo cameras 1 to 8 are connected to a processing unit 10 in common. The processing unit 10 has a synchronization signal generating part 11, an image signal selecting part 12, a distance information generating part 13 and a recognizing part 14. The image signal selecting part 12 selects one of the respective stereo cameras 1 to 8. The distance information generating part 13 generates distance information by stereo matching on the basis of a pair of pieces of image information outputted by the stereo camera selected by the image signal selecting part 12. The recognizing part 14 recognizes an object to be a monitored object on the basis of the distance information generated by the distance information generating part 13. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
