<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control gain characteristics by dissolving difficulty of design and monitoring the gain characteristics of an optical transmission line. <P>SOLUTION: This variable gain equalizer is provided with a band-pass filter 10 that varies filtering bands by wavelength to signals from the optical transmission line 22, a monitoring control means 13 for outputting a filtering band control signal that controls the filtering band of the band-pass filter 10, a response signal consisting of signal power by filtering band in which output of the band-pass filter 10 is measured and a gain control signal that controls the gain characteristics of the optical transmission line 22 for over a prescribed wavelength band, an optical amplification means 6 for outputting a modulation signal to the optical transmission line 22 by using the response signal to be outputted by the monitoring control means 13 as a control signal and a variable gain equalization means 5 for controlling the gain characteristics of an optical transmission line 21 by using the gain control signal to be outputted by the monitoring control means 13 as the control signal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
