PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance secondary electron emission characteristics of a protection film used for a plasma display panel. SOLUTION: With the plasma display panel provided with a front face plate with display electrodes wired and a back face plate with address electrodes wired and displaying images by discharge in micro discharge spaces formed in a gap between the both plates, the protection film with a matter expressed in a formula of MgO<SB>x</SB>M<SB>y</SB>as a main component is used (provided, 0<x<1, 0<y<1).
