PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system program updating method and electronic equipment capable of updating a system program such as a BIOS program without considering the using condition of an application program being started on a personal computer. SOLUTION: When the rewriting of a BIOS-ROM 18 is ended, the data of an application program being started on a personal computer 1 or the data of a device are stored in an HDD 16, and the power source of the personal computer 1 is interrupted (a step S103). After the lapse of a predetermined time, power is supplied to the personal computer 1 (S104), and the personal computer 1 is started. At that time, the application data and the device data before the interruption of the power source stored in the HDD 16 are moved to a main memory 13 (a step S106). COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
