PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-user detection method using high efficiency marginal distance decoding. SOLUTION: This method concerns a method for detecting a plurality of symbols (d<SB>k</SB>(i)) transmitted by or for a plurality of users (K), each symbol belonging to a modulation constellation, the method comprising a filtering step filtering a received signal for supplying a vector (z) each component of which is related to a user, the method further comprising a searching step for searching the closest neighbor of the said vector among candidates belonging to a lattice of points generated by the modulation constellations, the search being limited to a volume centered around the vector and being carried out by sequentially selecting a coordinate (b<SB>k</SB>) of a candidate for each dimension of the vector. The components of the vector are reordered according to an ordering rule prior to the search by being selected so that a candidate for the initial dimension with rate higher than a candidate for the next dimension to be searched is removed.
