PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a traffic information system enhanced in information collecting ability. SOLUTION: Onboard equipment 3 is mounted on a vehicle 2 to collect traffic information such as congestion information, accident information and method meteorological information. A car navigation system 20 is included in the onboard equipment, the positional information is detected therein, and the information as to congestion, an accident and weather conditions is input manually or detected automatically. A laser radar 14 is included in the onboard equipment to detect the number of vehicles, a vehicular speed, and a shape of a vehicle or the like, and the congestion information and the accident information are prepared based thereon. The various kinds of informations collected in the vehicle 2 transmitted to a center 9 via relay equipment 4. Information worked in the center 9 is transmitted back again to the vehicle.
