<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly input, display, and print characters in high-definition, including nonstandard characters in preparing an electronic document. <P>SOLUTION: A user prepares the electronic document including an external character through the use of the character register means 10a of a new input device 1. Concerning the external character, external character identifying information is obtained from an external character server 4 mounting an external character picture by using an external character input means 20a, and inserted to a pertinent part. An electronic document register means 41 registers the prepared electronic document in an electronic document database B, and, at the same time, registers the external character picture used in the electronic document in a usage character picture database Db by receiving a distribution from the external character server 4.
