PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline storage battery having superior cycle service life characteristics and self discharging characteristics. SOLUTION: This alkaline storage battery is provided with a case 1 also serving as a negative electrode terminal and having one end opened and the other end closed, an electrode group 3 stored in the case along with alkaline electrolytic solution, and insulating members 17 and 19 disposed in either one or the both of one end side or the other end side of the electrode group 3. This alkaline storage battery is characterized in that the insulating members 17 and 19 are provided with a retaining performance of the alkaline electrolytic solution and an ammonium catching performance.
