PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-capacity perpendicular magnetic recording medium which is excellent in performance and reliability and low in cost by using a recording layer, whose film can be formed at a room temperature. SOLUTION: In the perpendicular magnetic recording medium, the recording layer comprising a Co-containing ferromagnetic metal alloy and a nonmagnetic oxide is formed on at least one side of a base material.
