PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which suppresses temperature raising of a CCD and its driving circuit and reduces power consumption. SOLUTION: In back scanning after reading an original, a CCD line sensor is made into a stand-by state. In the stand-by state of the CCD line sensor, clock signals for driving the CCD line sensor is stopped, or only a clock for driving a CCD transfer part is stopped among the clock signals for driving the CCD line sensor, or only the clock for driving a CCD transfer part is stopped among the clock signals for driving the CCD line sensor to stop power supply to the CCD.
