PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lamp lighting device quickening transient responding time of lamp driving current in an AC driving of a lamp. SOLUTION: This device has an AC driving circuit 50 for converting DC voltage into AC voltage and driving the discharge lamp 80 by the AC voltage and an igniter circuit 70 connected to the AC driving circuit 50 and applying high voltage to the discharge lamp 80 when starting the discharge lamp 80. Within a current passage 279 between an output end of the AC driving circuit 50 and the discharge lamp 80, at least a resistance r connected in series with at least igniter La connected in series with the discharge lamp 80 is provided.
