PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a color conversion definition suited to the human sense of colors and capable of performing a highly accurate color conversion including density gradations of an image with a wide density range representable on an image recording medium such as a reversal film even when a density range representable by an output device is narrow in a method for preparing color conversion definition or the like for preparing the color conversion definition for converting input image data obtained by reading the image recorded on the image recording medium with an input device into output image data suited to the output device for outputting the image based upon the image data. SOLUTION: The image data on the side of low lightness are converted to raise the lightness and afterwards, within the L*a*b* space, the color conversion is performed to match the image data to the output device.
