<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for measuring a queue length of vehicles capable of reducing measuring error of a queue length of vehicles by installing a camera lens toward a direction same with a proceeding direction of vehicles, photographing images of a road at the rear of vehicles, and measuring a queue length of vehicles. <P>SOLUTION: This apparatus for measuring the queue length of vehicles includes the camera 310 for photographing a rear image of vehicles on the road, an image converter 320 for converting analogue image signals corresponding to the images acquired by the camera into digital image signals, a calculating means 330 for extracting characteristics of the vehicles from the converted digital image signals, calculating positions of the vehicles on the road on the basis of the extracted characteristics, and calculating the queue length of the vehicles on the basis of the calculated positions of the vehicles. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
