<p>The present invention relates in general to methods of reducing the incidence off diabetesassociated embryopathy and to methods of protecting a mammalian embryo from diabetesrelated embryopathy and malformations, including neural tube defects. The invention further relates to methods of screening for combinations of antioxidants capable of protecting a mammalian embryo from diabetes-associated embryopathy. The invention further relates to pharmaceutical compositions comprising L-ergothioneine or other newly identified compounds and pharmaceutically acceptable carriers for administration to a mammal.</p> |
