Safety device for vehicles, especially motor vehicles, comprises at least one inflatable air bag (11) having an outer sleeve consisting of at least two outer material layers (13, 15) which are joined together. The air bag has an inner chamber structure defined by at least one inner material layer (17) which is joined at several connecting points (19) to the outer material layers so that when the air bag is inflated the volume of the air bag is formed by several chambers, each defined by the inner material layer and at least one of the outer material layers. An Independent claim is also included for the production of an inflatable air bag used in a safety device for vehicles, especially motor vehicles. Preferred Features: The chambers are tubular.
