New onium pentafluorosulfuranide salts useful as fluorinating agents and agents for introducing pentafluorosulfuranide groups into organic compounds

Onium pentafluorosulfuranide salts are new. Onium pentafluorosulfuranide salts of formula (I) or (II) are new: Q+ = a lipophilic quaternary ammonium, quaternary phosphonium, tertiary sulfonium, phosphazenium or amidinium cation other than tetramethylammonium, tetraethylammonium and tris(dimethylamino)sulfonium; Z = (R2N)2C=C(NR2)2, R2N-Ar-NR2, 2-(1,3-dithiol-2-ylidene)-1,3-dithiole or (RS)2C=C(SR)2; R = optionally substituted 1-10C alkyl or oxaalkyl, where two alkyls can be joined to form a ring, or optionally substituted 6-12C aryl; X- = halide, perfluoroalkylsulfonate, BF4-, PF6-, ClO4- or SF5-. Independent claims are also included for processes for preparing (I) and (II).
