The vehicle safety device may be e.g. a cover (11) for the boot space (18) with an end element. There are locking elements (e.g. 13) on the axial end side of the end element. Receivers (19) in the form of slideways with at least three sectors are provided on the vehicle for them. Two of these run along the pull-out direction of the cover and the other one runs transversely.
