A rubber element within the housing can be compressed crossways and connects at its ends to lines via connectors made of higher value non-corroding CrNi steel. The housing contains a pressure space confined by the outer housing walls as fitted with a control pressure line connection to admit gas or fluid control medium to the pressure space. The connectors at the far end of the housing lead into the ends of the element via a truncatedly conical clamp. The connector is fixed to the element via collar and fixed to the connector ring body. The housing is cylindrical in section or in truncated cone shape and if off-round then the clear width of the housing on the compressible space of the element slightly exceeds the element outside diameter and in the plane transverse to this roughly equals or exceeds half the circumference of the element passage plus twice the thickness of the element wall.
