A system for producing an alloy containing a rare earth metal which has a melting furnace for melting a raw alloy material containing a rare earth metal, a solidifying means for continuously cooling and solidifying the resulting alloy melt into a cast alloy piece, an alloy structure controlling means for controlling the alloy crystal structure of the cast alloy piece to a desired state, and a means for cooling the cast alloy piece, all the facilities being capable of operating in an inert gas atmosphere, characterized in that the alloy structure controlling means is equipped with a transfer device having a space for transfer sufficient for the continuous transfer of a cast alloy piece from the solidification means to the cooling means, and the transfer device has a temperature control means for controlling the inside of the space for transfer to a desired temperature. The system allows, in the production of an alloy containing a rare earth metal, the prevention of the oxidation of the alloy, easy control of the heat history of the alloy and the production of an alloy of uniform structure with good efficiency.
