The invention relates to a method for securing, perpetuating and ensuring the inviolability of public records and the issue of identity documents. According to said method, a control key is calculated on the basis of stated indications relating to civil status and an item of captured biometric information. A page of the register of civil status is completed with captured stated indications relating to civil status and the calculated control key and is plastified. Biometric information is re-captured on the individual, the key is re-calculated according to the latter and the indications, a comparative analysis is carried out with respect to the key which is present on the page of the register and the re-captured key and an identity document is issued only if the results of said comparative analysis are favorable.
