METHOD OF CONTROLLING THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING OF A MOTOR VEHICLE

The invention relates to a method of compensating for changes in the mechanical properties of a steering system according to the operating temperature, in order to ensure an optimum power assistance function. The inventive method consists in introducing a parameter into the electronic control unit for the electric power steering and exploiting said parameter. According to the invention, the aforementioned parameter is representative of a level of temperature (T) on the vehicle, which can be a temperature internal or external to the steering system. Said parameter is exploited in such a way as to compensate for the temperature variation effects on the steering system, for example using a temperature-variable gain (G) to weight a control variable (10) used in determining the set value applied to the electric power assistance motor.
