The method uses a machine in which the sheets (2) are passed in a straight line through a profiling zone with profiling tools (6) positioned at the sides of the feed path (1), with a pressure device (3,4) rolled across the top surface of the panel in the feed direction. A linear guide slot (10) is formed in at least one of the broad surfaces of the sheet, for cooperating with a linear guide device (11) during movement through the profiling zone. An Independent claim for a machine for profiling the side edges of wood sheets is also included.
