The drainage system is installed on the outside of an external wall (12) and its foundation (26). A rectangular drainage pipe (30) is placed at the level of the foundation and has perforations (42a) and a filter layer (44) on its outside vertical surface (42). It has perforations (36a) in its horizontal top surface (36). A porous seepage layer (20,22) is installed over the drainage pipe and has a filter layer (24) on its outside surface. Water (16) from the earth (18) in contact with the wall may seep through the filter layers and is taken away through the rectangular drainage channel (32).
