A detailed linkage analysis is performed on the Ehd1 domain on a population separated on a large scale which is essentially required in map base cloning . As a result, an Ehd1 gene promoting rice earing (flowering) is successfully isolated. It is also found out that the earing time of rice can be altered b y transferring this gene. Based on these facts, it is expected that the newly isolated and identified Ehd gene would be usable in promoting plant flowerin g.
