The windmill has a conical tower (50) with a housing (51) for a generator (40) and a gearbox (30) at ground level. The drive shaft (20) is geared (14) to a vertical-axis windmill (13) with a fixed central support shaft (12) on a mounting ring (11) with a reinforcing flange (11a). There is a lightning conductor (12a) at the top of the support shaft. The ends of the rotor blades (15) are fastened to top (13a) and bottom (13b) support disks running on bearings (16). The blades are bent outward in an approximately catenary shape to minimize bending stresses as the rotor turns at high speed.
