1,093,437. Electron beam irradiation apparatus. A. E. DE RUDNAY. Oct. 14, 1965 [Oct. 15, 1964], No. 43548/65. Heading H1D. [Also in Division G5] The record/read process is basically similar to that described in Specification 1,093,436, but is intended for forming permanent, non- erasible records. In one example 1 of titanium is deposited on a glass plate and selectively oxidized so that the oxide varies from 300 with blue light reflectance of 1% to 700, where the reflectance is 65%. In a second example, a thin layer of titanium or aluminium is supported on a plastics film, preferably sandwiched between two such films and bombarded by a laser beam to produce an oxide layer with modulated interference colour patterns. In a third example, an oxide is produced and then removed by vaporization to leave a light-modulating groove structure. In a fourth example, a titanium layer is selectively nitrided to vary its reflection of green light. In a fifth example, a Fabry-Perot filter is made of a platinum-group metal and is selectively treated with hydrogen to modulate its optical transmission and/or reflection properties. |
