PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an original reader constituted so that the operability of an original covering member can be appropriately adjusted in accordance with the size of an original and the positional deviation of the original can be effectively prevented. SOLUTION: The original covering member 12 which is freely opened/closed with reference to an original platen 11 for placing the original so as to cover and fix the original in the closed state is provided with several pressing parts A to D arranged adjacent to one another, and the pressing parts A to D are separately provided with knob parts 1a to 1d, and each knob part 1a to 1d is engaged with each recessed part formed in another adjacent pressing parts A to D.
