<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the consumption of energy by carrying out destaticizing only when the potential of a transfer carrier exceeds a specified value. <P>SOLUTION: A toner image is formed by developing an electrostatic latent image formed on an image carrier with a developing device and the toner image is transferred to a recording member by applying charge to the transfer carrier. Whether or not to carry out the charge removal of the transfer carrier with a charge removal means (for example, a discharging roll, a discharging brush, discharging charge means or a discharging needle) is judged according to the surface potential of the transfer carrier (for example, a transfer carrying belt or an intermediate transfer belt). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
