<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device wherein a polarization state of reflected light going and returning through a liquid crystal in a reflection region and a polarization state of transmitted light passed through a hole for passing light can coincide with each other without conventionally enlarging the height of a structure. <P>SOLUTION: A gate wiring 1 and a source wiring 2 are disposed so as to cross each other and a thin film transistor 5 is provided on a transparent substrate 15. As the other member, a color filter 16, a transparent electrode 13 consisting of ITO or the like and an alignment layer are formed on a counter substrate 14 and a transparent synthetic resin layer 17 is formed at the part corresponding to a transmission mode on the color filter 16 having a flat shape. Optical retardation of a liquid crystal layer in the reflection region is specified to be 90°×(2m-1), wherein m=1, 2, 3,..., and optical retardation of the liquid crystal layer in a transmission region is specified to be 180°×(2n-1), wherein n=1, 2, 3,.... <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
