PREFORM FOR PHOTONIC CRYSTAL OPTICAL FIBER AND ITS MANUFACTURING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preform for a new photonic crystal optical fiber with little limitation to its length, and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The perform for a photonic crystal optical fiber comprises: forming a plurality of fitting grooves 5 by grinding processing along each longitudinal direction in the external surrounding of a crystal glass rod 3 provided with a core 2 at the shaft center; accommodating a glass tube 6 having a small diameter in each fitting groove; forming a clad layer 4 by accumulating a glass material on the surrounding of the crystal glass rod. Thereby, the preform 1 for the long photonic crystal optical fiber can be readily obtained making no limitation to length of a void hole. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
