PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rolling element for traction drive that keeps traction coefficient high under a condition of thick oil film and prevents decrease of durability even under a condition of thin oil film. SOLUTION: In the rolling element for traction drive, a rolling surface 3a of a power roller 3 is provided with a fine groove 3b spirally continuing along the rolling direction, respective rolling surfaces 1a and 2a of input/output disks 1 and 2 are provided with dimples 1b and 2b having a diameter smaller than the width of a fine groove 3b of the power roller 3, and the fine groove 3b of the power roller 3 and the dimples 1b and 2b of input/output disks 1 and 2 are disposed in a range D where a Hertzian contact ellipse in an at least maximum load passes.
