PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve engine starting ability while preventing the wasteful use of fuel in an engine for motorcycles, which injects fuel by electronic control. SOLUTION: This controller is provided with a kick type starting unit 13, injector 10, a judging means to judge that in what state the engine 1 is, being starting, having completed its starting or being stopped, and a control means to control the fuel injection by the injector 10. The judging means has a rotation sensor 3 and an engine speed computing unit 21 to detect engine speed, and a first-order lag filter 22 and a quantity-of-change computing unit 23 to detect the quantity-of-change of engine speed for judging the state of the engine when it start based on engine speed N and quantity-of-change D. Through this constitution, even if kicking operation is executed twice continuously, the state of the engine is judged surely to start the engine without fail while cutting off the supply of fuel with the engine stalled.
